Exclusive pictures taken inside the Bradford Odeon October 2012

First post in a while, life is busy with a young baby!

Recently I had the the chance to photograph the inside of the former Odeon cinema in Bradford, this was a 'permission' visit with the Bradford Odeon Rescue Group (BORG).

The Odeon building has been in a precarious position for the past 12 years especially under the previous Yorkshire Forward ownership it was not maintained properly and left to rot, however the new owners The Homes and Communities agency (HCA) have done some much needed remedial conservation work on the building and as such thereby securing it's future for the next few years until a developer can take over and fully restore and make it an asset to the community once again.

The Bingo hall in the former stalls area of the original cinema.

Again the Bingo hall this time looking towards the stage.

This is on the stage of the Bingo hall and shows damage to the 1960's conversion. (this will of course be stripped out when the building is restored).

Entrance to the Theatre Bar. Water damage is visible, however due to the work carried out by the HCA any further damage has been averted.

The upper cinema foyer.

The upper foyer again looking the other way.

Inside 'Odeon 2' after the seating, carpet and asbestos ceiling covering have been removed.

'Odeon 2' looking towards the screen.

'Odeon 1' note the barriers.

Looking towards the rear of 'Odeon 1'.

'Odeon 3', the former ballroom. Again barriers blocking off the seats but interesting to see the original decor an wooden framework for the mirror panels that once adorned the walls of the ballroom.

Some of the extensive original plasterwork left in the building.

All in all not to bad a condition for a building that has been pretty much left to it's own devices for 12 years with no heating or ventilation.

Comments

  1. Excellent photos Mike. Gives fresh encouragement to existing supporters, and will, I think sway some doubters over the possibilities of restoration as opposed to demolition.
